A Yugoslav soldier, member of special reconnaissance team, observes area through the scope of a long-range rifle near the southern Serbian town of Vranje some 3km from buffer zone January 11, 2001. The buffer zone was established as part of the deal that ended the 1999 NATO bombing campaign against Yugoslavia to stop repression of ethnic Albanians in the province. KFOR peacekeepers, whose relations with Serb officials have vastly improved since Slobodan Milosevic fell from power in October, are patrolling the boundary and have detained several ethnic Albanian guerrillas in recent months. The KFOR peacekeeping force were appealing directly to members of the Liberation Army of Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac (UCPMB) to lay down their arms. IM/CLH/
