A white whale, or beluga, swims past visitors in the Arctic section of Valencia's Oceanografic, Europe's biggest oceanarium with 45,000 living creatures of 500 different species in 42,000 litres of water, the equivalent to 15 Olympic swimming pools, November 16, 2003. The aquarium recreates the world's most important marine ecosystems so as to enable research and teaching involving the water environment, and to contribute to the protection of marine life. The white whale, also known as "The Canary of the Sea" is famous for having one of the widest repertoires of the odontocetes, ([dolpins], killer whales etc...) studied so far.
