Medallion carpet, probably Persian Kurdistan, late 17th or early 18th century (wool & cotton)

The corroded wine-red field with brightly coloured palmettes and cloudbands around a large cusped sea-green medallion containing polychrome arabesques flanking a central rosette, in an indigo border of alternating cartouches and roundels divided by stellar panels between golden yellow floral meander stripes, cut and rejoined with minimal loss, some areas of wear, heavily corroded field 10ft.11in. x 4ft.11in. (332cm. x 150cm.) Warp: cotton, white, Z5S Weft: wool, red of differing shades, Z1; 3 and some 4 shoots Pile: wool, Z2S; asymmetric, open left, also sharing knots and on three warps, H34-36 x V34-36
