Image description

This photo appears in The Making of a Mission by The Bradford Wesleyan Mission, published March 1911, pg 83, caption: The Southend Women's Meeting The Women's Meeting has been a triumph - there is no other work for it. The picture will speak for itself. The membership in nearly 200, the average attendance 150. It is held every Monday afternoon, from 3 till 4, and is a bright, hearty, religious service, at which the Gospel is preached in a homely fashion. It is a Sabbath to the women. A cup of tea and a bun is provided, for which the women pay 1d., but the chief enjoyment of it was expressed by one, who said: It's a right treat once in a while to have tea made for you. Into this meeting the Church Consciousness is coming. A Baptismal service is held once a month, and at the February observance, nine babies were christened and their names put upon our 'Cradle Roll' (Reverend Cherry in backgroundwith large collar).
