Traffic stops on a Tel Aviv street as the wail of memorial sirens brings Israel to a standstill for two minutes on April 9, 2002, the Jewish state's annual remembrance day for the six million Jews killed, nearly 60 years ago, in the Nazi Holocaust in World War II. Flags throughout Israel were at half-mast for the 24-hour memorial. Many Israelis feel they are again victims of anti-Jewish violence after a wave of Palestinian suicide attacks ha killed scores of civilians since the start of a more than 18-month-old uprising against Israeli occupation.
