The Church of Fedorovskaya (named for the icon of the Mother of God given to Michael by his mother Martha upon his accession as the first Romanov) was built by the architect Vladimir Pokrovsky (c.1871-1931) and completed in 1912. It exemplifies the clean simplified lines and exaggerated perspectives characteristic of the fin-de-siecle. The facades are decorated with mosaics and the interior held the Imperial family's personal collection of rare and ancient icons.
