MAJOR GENERAL COSGROVE CONGRATULATES NEWLYWEDS IN DILI, 1999-10-25 (photo)

INTERFET Commander, Major General Peter Cosgrove (L), congratulates Corporal Sue Matchett (C) and Sergeant Joe Newbury (R) after their wedding in Dili October 23. Australian peacekeepers Newbury and Matchett had originally arranged to get married in Sydney October 23 and instead of missing their big day because of their deployment in East Timor as part of "Operation Stablise", they decided to have the ceremony in Dili. Their colleagues converted their workplace, the ruined Dili Museum which is now a field hospital, into a makeshift chapel. For their honeymoon, the newlyweds were presented with the gift of spending Sunday in Darwin. After the service however, it was back into military uniform and straight back to work.
