Ballett. Im 19 Jahrhundert war manches von der eigentlichen kunstlerischen Bedeutung des Balletts verlorengegangen. Es bekam schon damals einen mehr revueartigen Charakter, und mehr Wert als auf den Inhalt wurde auf die Pracht der Kostume und szenischen Ausstattung gelegt. Ballettpantomimen waren sehr beliebt, anfangs als gesellschaftliche Ereignisse, bald auch im Zirkus. Translation: Ballet. In the 19th century some of the actual artistic importance of ballet had been lost. Even then it acquired a more revue-like character, and more importance was attached to the splendor of the costumes and scenic equipment than to the content.
