A Mudejar geometric ceiling, Southern Spain, probably Seville (painted wood)

Of rectangular form, comprising two square panels joined at the centre, backed on pine boards, worked with an elaborately interlaced design of strips forming stellar panels, the interstices covered with raised elements with bevelled edges shaped to fill the space, each rib with a central red band, the panels painted with red floral motifs on a black ground, or with black outlined designs on an uncoloured ground, some of the raised panels painted on the reverse in deep blue with Arabic inscriptions and occasional Gothic letters, damages to paint, slight losses of wood, solid wooden frame.
