SPANISH FORMER MONK MENDS HIS WORN OUT SHOES IN CENTRAL SPAIN, 2003-12-03 (photo)

Justo Gallego takes a break from work to wrap up his worn out shoes with tape December 3, 2003 at the cathedral he single-handedly started building in the central Spanish town of Mejorada del Campo forty years ago. The former Spanish monk started the construction of the building he calls a cathedral out of faith. He sold part of his inheritance to buy materials and learned about architecture and art by reading books. The cathedral, which now measures 33 metres high but will reach 55 metres when finished, attracts hords of tourists to this dormitory town outside Madrid.
