The Battle of the Hook, also know as the battle of Gloucester Point was fought on October 3, 1781. A foraging expedition of the British Legion and other troops was counter attacked by French cavalry of the Lauzun Legion and pushed back to their fortified positions. During the battle the Duc de Lauzun and the infamous Banastre Tarleton nearly met in single combat but Tarleton's horse was overthrown by one of his troopers being chased by a French lancer.
