The Allied army in the Balkans was unfairly criticised at the time as a pointless waste of men and material with the troops there having an easy time. The fact that the campaign was brought to a successful conclusion in 1918 with the decisive defeat of Bulgaria, liberation of Serbia and strategic exposure of Austria and Turkey contradicts this view.
