Buczyna forest massacre, Poland

Jewish children's burial pit demarcated by blue railings where Polish Jews from the area of Tarnow were killed in June 1942. They were executed in pits in the Buczyna forest near Zbylitowska Góra / Zbilatoska Gura. A group of visiting high school pupils from Israel have left a memorial of kites tied to the railings and written on them is the famous saying of the Polish Jewish eductionalist Janusz Korczak 'Every single child must have a kite'. JK was a progressive director of the orphanage in Warsaw which was moved to the ghetto and, despite being offered a chance to avoid their terrible fate, he stayed with the children and led them, dressed in their best clothes, to Treblinka extermination camp to be murdered.
