Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps personnel relax outside their hostel, 1917 circa. Photograph, World War One (1914-1918), 1917 circa. The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), like the Army generally, utilised a range of accommodation for its personnel in the rear areas. The latter included tents and pre-fabricated barracks as well as existing buildings. Although not all facilities were as comfortable as the room shown here, the accommodation for women was usually superior to that used by men of equivalent status.
