A full-length portrait of a young woman, standing, turned slightly to the left, glancing to the right, her dark hair falling in ringlets on her shoulders, wearing a white satin dress with ample sleeves gathered at the elbows with blue bows and with a blue bow at her breast, there are full lace frills at neckline and mid-arm. She gestures with her right hand and holds a fold of her skirt with her left hand, she stands before a brown drape to the left, a classical vase and a distant landscape are revealed to the right. Mary Howard was the first wife of George Venables Vernon. They married in 1734. In 1762, after her death, he was created 1st Baron Vernon. Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire
