AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES CRICKET MATCH AGAINST ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDERS AT NEWS CONFERENCE IN SYDNEY. Australia's Prime Minister John Howard (C) is watched by Denis Rogers (L) chairman of the Australian Cricket Board and chairman of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) Geoff Clark (R) at a news conference at a cricket museum in Sydney January 3, 2001. Howard announced there would be a cricket match between the Prime Minister's XI and the ATSIC XI in the national capital later this year. The staging of this match said Howard would provide an opportunity to celebrate the past and present contribution made by indigenous Australians to cricket, and more widely to sport.
