DROMEDARY CAMEL GETS HAT FROM TRAINER BEFORE RACING IN MELBOURNE, 1999-10-28 (photo)

Camel trainer Chris Hill from Charleville in Queensland places his Australian bush hat onto the head of "The Phantom," a racing dromedary camel during a familiarisation appearance at Moonee Valley Race Course near Melbourne October 28. Camels will race on the track over the weekend, competing in a programme organised by the Australian Camel Racing Association who say the highlight of race-day may the unpredicatable behaviour of young camels who have never raced before. The camel races coincide with the Spring Racing Carnival for Australian and international thoroughbred horses. WB/PB
