A worker at Belgium's single-largest slaughterhouse, in the Brussels' commune of Anderlecht, walks towards the empty section where pigs are slaughtered June 4. [Late on Thursday Health Minister Luc Van den Bossche set a three-day slaughter ban for chicken, pigs and cattle to give the authorities more time to determine which] farms had received feed with the toxic chemical dioxin. The carcinogen has so far only been found in chicken and eggs, but the authorities fear the feed might also have been given to cattle and pigs. The discovery has set off Europe's worst food crisis since the mad cow disease alert.
