Now Representing: Saint Louis Art Museum

The Saint Louis Museum was founded in 1879 with the purpose of conserving art, inspiring, educating, and elevating the human spirit. Bridgeman is delighted to announce its representation of this stellar US institution for licensing. A small collection which began as an assortment of plaster casts, electrotype reproductions, and mixed media designs has developed to an encyclopedic collection of more than 33,000 works that spans over five thousand years and six continents. Highlights of the collection include the largest public collection of paintings in the world by the influential 20th century German painter, Max Beckmann, and the “Election Series” by MIssouri native, George Caleb Bingham. Bingham's series details the various stages of the American political process, and in part was inspired by his experience as a local politician.

The Modern art collection is one of the museum’s most distinguished areas with works from French Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and German Expressionist movements. The American sector contains works from the Hudson River school, works by William Merritt Chase and John Stuart Curry, and abstract art from the first half of the 20th century. The contemporary collection houses signature pieces by Joseph Beuys, Sigmar Polke, Anselm Kiefer, and Gerhard Richter, works in this collection range from the post-war period to the present. A painting on copper by Artmesia Gentileschi, a marble Pan from Michelangelo’s workshop, and works by Titian, Rubens and Hubert Robert are just a few of the stars in the European collection.
