A large wooden cart pulled by two oxen stands on a road in the foreground surrounded by Italian farm workers; a central male figure stands between the oxen gazing at a woman on the left, who carries a bundle of sheaves; other figures include a woman with a baby, standing on the cart, and two dancing men, one of whom plays bagpipes; in the distance, the Pontine Marshes After the painting by Léopold Louis Robert (1830; Louvre) which was engraved by Ferdinand Joubert in 1854. In 1840 Prince Albert also purchased Canzi's Le Retour du Pélerinage à la Madone de l'Arc (RCIN 406998), another copy after Robert.
