Description
In the mid-18th century the monarchs of Europe were becoming increasingly wary of the Jesuits, believing them to be plotters prone to meddling in state affairs; As a result the Jesuits were banned from many European states; Jesuits in the Kingdoms of Spain and Naples and the Duchy of Parma were rounded up in April 1767 and sent, ultimately, to Corsica; As in this image the Jesuits were characterised by their long black robes;
