On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "The superb antique knocker ( brass) on No 6 Durie Lane. The mansion that the fourth (?) Duke of Athol was wont to have the use of from the lady that owned it, on his visits to the Island prior to his occupancy of what is now the Douglas Hotel and his building of Castle Mona. (No, this was one of the houses he owned probably]. A magnifier gives this object a stereoscopic effect. I omitted to focus this down to a portrait range. Nearly two years later (18.4.34) I took another, at proper focus, but with a magnifier, this seems the better of the two. In the '34 one, the number 6 is much sharper however."
