Image description: Troops from 78th Division lining up to collect their weekly ration of chocolate, cigarettes and matches from the NAAFI, March 1943. Photograph, World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943), 1943. The Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) ran clubs, bars, shops, launderettes, restaurants and cafés that sold and issued goods to servicemen and their families. By April 1944 the NAAFI ran 7,000 canteens and had 96,000 personnel, many of whom were from the Royal Army Service Corps. From a collection of British official war photographs relating to the 78th Division.
