Video description

The obelisk of Theodosius was created by Pharaoh Tutmoses III for the Temple of Karnak. In 357 BCE, Emperor Constantinus II brought it to Alexandria. This obelisk remained in Alexandria until 390 AD, when Theodosius I moved it to Constantinople, where he erected it on the spina of the Hippodrome on a new pedestal bearing inscriptions and reliefs. The Obelisk of Theodosius is of red granite from Aswan.
